10/4/2005 I discovered even more evidence supporting a central/western Mexican origin for Georgia's Moundbuilders. In the Ocmulgee Mounds exhibit I include a comparison of several place names that are similar in both Georgia and Central Mexico (and even having the same meaning!). I also added an image of the Chontal mortuary effigy statues that are similar to statues created by Georgia's Moundbuilders.
In the Etowah Mounds exhibit I added an image of a male & female human effigy statue found buried in western Mexico that are amazingly similar to the male & female human effigy marble statues found buried at Etowah. (Even the face painting is similar!)
Thus the Creek Migration Legend seems to be correct when it states the Creeks migrated from the west from an area featuring volcanoes-- central Mexico.

8/24/2005 I recently added a painting by the artist Catlin created in the 1800s which depicts a Native American ballgame that he witnessed. This image helps illustrate the discussion on the ballgame played at Etowah. Click here to view the updated page.
8/22/2005 Finished production on Ancient Architects of Georgia CD-ROM.
08/21/05 I added new information to the Ocmulgee Mounds exhibit regarding the Creek Migration legend. I recently came upon information about a Mexican tribe called the Chontal who lived in western Mexico and disappeared from the archaeological record around 600 AD. I feel like this is about the time period that the Creek Migration may have begun. Based on some of the Chontal artifacts, I proposed in the Ocmulgee Mounds update that these may be the ancestors of the Creek Indians. Click Here to Visit the Ocmulgee Mounds Exhibit
