Welcome to Lost Worlds: Florida
Florida is home to some of North America's most impressive prehistoric civilizations and archaeological discoveries. From the Venice-like Mound Key, a manmade island city of canals and pyramids constructed by the Calusa to the grand Apalachee villages containing earthen pyramid mounds and central plazas, Florida has a variety of sites second to none.
Florida was also the state whose native peoples first came into contact with Europeans. It is from these encounters that we have our first written historical accounts of civilizations that are today lost and unknown to most modern people.
LostWorlds.org is currently planning many new exhibits for Lost Worlds of Florida which will reveal these ancient and exotic civilizations to the public through the use of advanced interactive technologies. We are currently looking for grants to help us with our goal but you can help too. By making a donation you will ensure that the Lost Worlds of Florida exhibit becomes a reality. In the mean time visit our first exhibits "Public Indian Sites of Florida," "Public Indian Events of Florida," and "Ancient Architects of Florida" to discover the many important sites that the Sunshine State has to offer.
For over 5,000 years Florida's Native Americans built some of the most impressive structues in all of North America. From circular shell rings and earthen pyramids to entire manmade islands with canals, pyramids and water courts, Florida's Indians greatly impressed the first Europeans who landed on this continent.
